The predecessor of the Watchtower was printed in Rochester, NY; if you look up the address on their magazine, it is now an ABVI office (Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired). Seems fitting.

That’s true, but do you think if what he said contravened common beliefs, it wouldn’t have been noted? “this guy says the prophets were wrong” or “Moses writings aren’t really facts” would’ve made a hell of a bigger statement back then than “woe you Pharisees”

The UN mission in Kosovo was a disaster, they basically supported the wrong side and then NATO had to step in and it took a year of bombings to get both sides under control due to a severely lame-duck US general.
As was Rwanda and every other so-called peacekeeping mission he UN has taken. When you can’t shoot belligerents, you’re just a sitting duck.

@Wing: according to NIH studies, masking during the flu pandemic in 1914 had no effect. Correctly wearing N95 masks, perhaps helps, but surgical masks are not intended to stop particles from getting in your mouth and the majority of people does not have or knows how to wear N95.
I agree with you on the majority of the vaccination points. However there are some that have reactions. I’ve been involved both as a subject and part of the team in mRNA vaccine studies for HIV. As a subject, I had 1 reaction out of the 10 shots I got during the 2 year study. There are various permanent issues though that may stem from vaccines, especially for females, given they are still experimental, perhaps waiting is a good idea.
For me personally, relatively young and healthy, my risk at catching COVID and dying is nearly zero, by the time I get to be susceptible, the disease will be long gone. I have the same chance of serious illness and dying of COVID than getting the blood clots from the vaccine, so perhaps I shouldn’t take the chance. I probably also have natural immunity, I’ve had the flu in the last 2 years and working in a hospital and having kids that were exposed, I haven’t caught it by now, I will never catch it. If I do get symptoms I’d rather quarantine for 2 weeks and get natural immunity, I work from home anyway.
If you are at risk, certainly get the Trump vaccines, they are great, they are a scientific miracle. But if you’re young and healthy and you can afford to wait, the Biden admin hasn’t shown much confidence in them either, I don’t blame you, everyone is responsible for their own decisions.

At least according to the yellow my book of Bible stories I grew up with, they do take the Jonah thing quite literally. Even Jesus, who supposedly helped create all the animals according to JW lore, did reference the Jonah story as a fact.

@joey: the latest evictions were the result of a 50 year lawsuit. During the 1960s, Arab settlers occupied the area, Israel kicked them out but the Arab settlers didn’t move out. A law was created where they could stay if they paid rent to the original owners, they haven’t paid rent so the court evicted them after 50 years of lawsuits and the Israeli government backpedaling and slow-walking decision to try and get peace.
These evictions are just a pretext for violence. What really happened is that Mahmoud Abbas, terrorist and religious leader of Gaza and the PLO, who currently is 14 years into a 4 year term, was about to lose the election (which they haven’t had in a decade) to Hamas. Abbas cancelled the elections and blamed some random event and called for protests and the cutting off the heads of Jews in the street, which is when the riots started. Hamas, not about to be outdone by the PLO (says something when your political platforms revolve about who hates the Jews more) started firing rockets to garner political support.
These are just 2 evil organizations, about 200 rockets fell in Gaza, they don’t care. More Muslims and foreigners died from the attacks than Jews, they don’t care. There is no moral equivalence between Israel and Hamas/PLO and to deny they have the right to defend their sovereign nation, is simply anti-semitism. If Mexico or Canada started firing rockets into the US, we’d be occupying Mexico City and Quebec in 5 minutes flat and nobody would blink an eye. But somehow, Israel has no right to do the same?
They won legitimate wars over Jordan and Egypt and gave it all back and then some, if they were truly expansionist occupiers they’d still own land up until the Nile. the Gaza Strip is legitimately Israel’s since its founding, yet they allow a terrorist regime to exist in their own back yard. The stated goal of a Palestine State (an Islam state like ISIS which would be ruled by Iran), if it were to exist, is to eradicate all Jews (its in their founding documents).

Whales can have huge mouths, but their throat is the size of a quarter. Their mouth/teeth filter out anything wider than a blade of grass.
Whales do exist in the Mediterranean so the stories are based on folklore but not possible given their biology.

I’ve seen similar faces as a mask to keep evil away, the exaggerated features resemble central/East (deep) Africa.
But the way this is used seems very inaccurate as if the artist had some idea about African culture but then completely missed the point and added a very western twist to it.
Basically the artist saw “African art” in a local museum and thought that was how all African art was done, notwithstanding that the art he is attempting to imitate has nothing to do with slavery to the new world (West African and Arab slave traders wouldn’t cross half a continent through jungle and disease, they sold their own and nearby coastal population), he is imitating art from the wrong area of Africa.

Welcome to hyper inflation. Most people thought it would take Joe at least 2-3 years, he did it in 2-3 months. The best thing to do right now is spend your savings and borrow big. -

The CDC finally updates its guidance, but Biden is still double masking. Quite a message.
